1962 Multi-Signed New York Mets-Related Signed Ball with Roger Hornsby and Six Other Hall of Famers

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,541

This official National League (Giles) ball has been signed in blue ink by eleven individuals who were members of either the 1962 New York Mets or St. Louis Cardinals, as well as Hall of Famers Edd Roush (on the sweet spot), Max Carey, and Paul Waner, plus announcer Lindsay Nelson, the longtime "voice of the New York Mets." The Mets team members represented here are Casey Stengel (Mgr.), Rogers Hornsby (coach), Richie Ashburn, Gil Hodges, and Cookie Lavagetto (coach). The St. Louis Cardinals are represented by Stan Musial, Ken Boyer, Johnny Keane (on ball label), Harry Walker (coach), Minnie Minoso, and Ernie Broglio. Signatures range from "7" to "9," averaging "8." While we don't know the exact circumstances regarding the origins of this ball, we do note that Paul Waner was a hitting coach with the Cardinals in 1958 and 1959, and therefore did have ties to the team. Also, Carey was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1961 and Roush in 1962, so both players would have been sought out for their signatures at the time. Hornsby, of course, as noted, was a coach for the Mets in 1962. Regardless of its origins, it is a unique 1962 Mets-related ball, featuring seven Hall of Famers. The ball has some minor soiling, including two small areas of light discoloration (on separate panels). In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,541
