Circa 1960 Jimmie Foxx Single-Signed Baseball - PSA/DNA EX-MT 6

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $17,775

Tober-brand baseball signed in blue fountain on a side panel by Jimmie Foxx. Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA/DNA (signature graded 7, ball graded 5, for a final grade of 6). Despite the fact that Foxx lived for sixteen years after his election to the Hall of Fame in 1951, he died long before single-signed balls became the ideal for autograph collectors. As such, his signature alone on a baseball is extremely rare, with the demand far outweighing the supply (and this is especially so since Foxx is a key early member of the "500 Home Run Club," a very popular area of collecting for single-signed baseball collectors). The ball features a Tober logo bearing a "Rockville, Conn." address. Based upon what little information we could find, it appears that Tober was based in Rockville from the 1950s through the early 1970s, at which time the company ceased operations. The ball displays light toning, as well as a few tiny areas of discoloration. This is an outstanding Jimmie Foxx single-signed ball and one of only five examples we have offered in the past ten years. The ball is housed in its original PSA/DNA ball holder (original seal broken to photograph) and is accompanied by its full PSA/DNA LOA. Additional LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $17,775
