1962 SCLC Hall of Fame Program Signed by Jackie Robinson with Panoramic Photo
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948
Program from the July 20, 1962, Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) "Hall of Fame" dinner, signed on the cover by Jackie Robinson and Floyd Patterson. Robinson's signature has been scripted in black ink, grading "10," while Patterson's blue-ink signature grades "9." Jackie Robinson was the guest of honor at the SCLC's "Hall of Fame" dinner that night, which was held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City in his honor just three days prior to Robinson's Induction Ceremony in Cooperstown. As such, an illustrated portrait of Robinson adorns the cover of the program as well. The interior pages feature numerous preprinted tributes to Robinson, including those by Nelson Rockefeller, Ed Sullivan, Diahann Carroll, Harry Belafonte, and Duke Ellington. As noted in the program, the guest speaker for the dinner was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was the president of the SCLC. The forty-page program (8.5 x 11 inches) displays moderate wear to the covers, including a few tiny areas of discoloration (not affecting either signature), and is in Very Good condition overall. Accompanying the program is a spectacular panoramic photograph of the dinner, which includes Jackie Robinson and his wife, Rachel, sitting at the dais. Other famous attendees in the photo include Branch Rickey, Nelson Rockefeller, and Jersey Joe Walcott. The printed caption at the base of the photo reads "Jackie Robinson/Hall of Fame Dinner/The Waldorf Astoria New York City/July 20 1962." Also printed along the base is the photographer's credit: "Drugker-Hilbert Co." The photo (23 x 11.5 inches) is in apparent Excellent condition, with just a few tiny corner creases evident. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 30 x 18 inches. Total: 2 items (program and photo). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $948
