1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Tour-of-Japan Team-Signed Sun Hat
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830
Brooklyn Dodgers blue-and-white sun hat signed in blue ink on the top white panels by eighteen members of the 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers, including Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Sandy Koufax, Walt Alston (Mgr.), Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Sandy Amoros, Sal Maglie, Johnny Podres, Don Zimmer, Clem Labine, Jim Gilliam, and Al Campanis (scout). Also included is the signature of famed clown Emmett Kelly, who took a year off from his circus career to portray the club's mascot, the "Brooklyn Bum," during the 1956 season. Signatures range from "3" to "7," averaging "5/6." The hat's tour-of-Japan provenance is predicated upon the fact that it also displays two signatures in Japanese. The cloth hat, with a blue "B" stitched on the front, displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including light soiling and a torn interior leather headband. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $830
