1957 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Ball - Last Season in Brooklyn!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $711

Spalding "Dodgers" ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-five members of the 1957 Brooklyn Dodgers: Campanella, Koufax, Alston (Mgr., sweet spot), Drysdale, Snider, Reese, Valo, Labine, Neal, McDevitt, Podres, Roebuck, Craig, Zimmer, Gilliam, Jackson, Newcombe, Walker, Hodges, Erskine, Furillo, Amoros, Cimoli, Maglie, and Kennedy. Signatures range from "3" to "8," averaging "5/6." This ball represents the end to one of the most storied chapters in baseball history. Following the 1957 season Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley broke the hearts of millions of fans when he moved the club to Los Angeles, California. Although he was vilified for his actions at the time, modern historians have shown that O'Malley did his best to keep the club in Brooklyn but was rebuffed time after time regarding a new stadium site by powerful city official Robert Moses. Frustrated, and with no solution in sight, he was left with no choice but to move the club to greener pastures. Today, O'Malley is credited with advancing the nationwide growth and popularity of Major League baseball and in 2008 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game. The ball is lightly soiled and in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $711
