1950s New York Yankees Signed Photo Collection (10) with Two Vintage Mickey Mantle Signed Photos

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948

Collection of ten vintage 1950s New York Yankees publicity photos, each signed on the front by the respective player, including Mickey Mantle (two different examples), Billy Martin, and Yogi Berra. These photos, all of which were signed during the 1950s, come with the special provenance of having once resided in the B. C. Clark Collection. Clark was an early autograph collector who was good friends with Phil Rizzuto, which gave him access to the Yankees clubhouse during the 1940s and 1950s. As such, nearly all of these photos are personalized either to Clark or his two sons, Richard and Billy. (For more information on the B. C. Clark Collection please see our introduction in this catalog to his remarkable autographed-ball collection.) Each of the black-and-white photos measures approximately 7.5 x 9.5 inches and features the player's name preprinted in either black or white lettering on the front. Unless otherwise noted, each photo has been signed in blue ink (with the signature grading "9" or "10), and has been personalized to either Clark or his two sons. The players represented here are Mickey Mantle (two different examples; one just signed "Best Wishes" [grading "7/8"]), Billy Martin, Yogi Berra (not personalized), Phil Rizzuto, Bob Turley, Andy Carey (black ink; grading "4/5"), Joe Collins (grading "4/5"), Gil McDougald (grading "6"), and Bill Skowron. Mantle photographs signed in the 1950s are of special note and extremely desirable. All of the photos display light staining (mostly visible on the reverse), with a few also having been slightly trimmed. One of the Mantle photos displays paper residue on the front, while the other one displays slightly heavier staining in the lower right corner. A few minor edge tears are also evident on a number of photos as well. In Good condition overall. Total: 10 photos. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $948
