1954 New York Giants World Champions Team-Signed Ball with Durocher!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $711
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following thirty members of the 1954 World Champion New York Giants: Mays (signed "W. H. Mays"), Durocher (Mgr., sweet spot), Irvin, Wilhelm, Dark, Antonelli, Rhodes, Gardner, Lockman, McCall, Gomez, Worthington, Jansen, Konikowski, Hoffman, Mueller, Spencer, Katt, Castleman, Thompson, Westrum, Corwin, Liddle (sweet spot), Taylor, Maglie, Giel, Amalfitano, Hearn, Grissom, and Williams. Signatures range in grade from "5" to "8," averaging "6/7." This ball is especially notable for the fact that it has been signed by Durocher. Most 1954 Giants team balls feature a stamped facsimile Durocher signature on the sweet spot. (Durocher did not like to sign; to address this, a facsimile signature stamp was created to use on most team balls). The Giants swept the heavily favored Cleveland Indians in the 1954 World Series to capture their first World Championship since 1933. Although Dusty Rhodes was the hitting star for the Giants, it was Willie Mays' miraculous catch of a ball off the bat of Vic Wertz in Game One that remains the defining moment of the Series. The ball is lightly toned and all of the manufacturer's stampings remain bold. In Excellent condition overall. This is an outstanding New York Giants team ball representing the club's final World Championship in New York. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $711
