1960 National League All-Star Team-Signed Bat with Clemente!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $5,036

Bob Boyd H&B signature-model (O1S) bat, signed in green ink by the following twenty-four members of the 1960 National League All-Star team: Hank Aaron, Ed Bailey, Ernie Banks, Ken Boyer, Bob Buhl, Orlando Cepeda, Roberto Clemente, Del Crandall, Roy Face, Bob Friend, Bill Henry, Norm Larker, Vern Law, Eddie Mathews, Willie Mays, Bill Mazeroski, Mike McCormick, Lindy McDaniel, Stan Musial, Charlie Neal, Vada Pinson, Johnny Podres, Tony Taylor, and one other (illegible). The bat has also been signed by journeyman catcher Joe Pignatano. (Pignatano may have attended the game as a bullpen catcher.) Signatures range from "6" to "9," averaging "8." There were two All-Star Games in 1960: the first was held at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City on July 11th, and the other was held at Yankee Stadium in New York on July 13th. All of the players represented here took part in both games. Signed All-Star team baseballs from this era are very scarce and desirable, but All-Star team signed bats are virtually nonexistent. Our consignor obtained this bat from the family of a former major league batboy, who is now deceased. As such, it is has never before been offered at public auction. This is an extremely attractive and unique signed commemorative piece featuring eight Hall of Fame signatures, including Roberto Clemente, from the 1960 Midsummer Classic. The bat displays light use, including a repaired "H" crack in the handle (the repair includes two small "batboy" nails). Length: 35 inches. Weight: 31.2 ounces. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $5,036
