1951 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948
Official National League (Frick) ball signed in black ink by the following thirty-two members of the 1951 Brooklyn Dodgers: Robinson, Campanella, Reese, Snider, Dressen (Mgr., on the ball label), Miksis, King, Antonello, Newcombe, Erskine, Mossor, Podbielan, Branca, Haugstad (sweet spot), Van Cuyk (sweet spot), Hermanski (sweet spot), Hodges, Furillo, Russell, H. Edwards, Thompson, Romano, Cox, Atwell, B. Edwards, Bankhead, Lavagetto (coach), Pitler (coach), Roe, Morgan, Abrams, and Belardi. This ball was almost certainly signed during spring training, as Atwell, Antonello, and Romano failed to make the team that year (all were on Dodger farm teams in 1951). There are two other signatures on the ball label; one is illegible, while the other reads "Senator John Griffin" (our research has failed to find any United States senator or Florida state senator named John Griffin). Signatures range from "4" to "8," averaging "6." There is a thin semicircular indentation on a side panel (from a former ball holder); otherwise the ball is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $948
