Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Remarkable ultra-high grade example of Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown (Chicago Cubs) from the T204 Ramly series. This card, which is an early SGC-graded example, is the highest-graded example of Brown ever evaluated by SGC according to the SGC Population, with none graded higher. Brown is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the entire T204 set. As noted in the introduction to the Ramly section of this auction, we believe that some of the early SGC-graded T204 Ramlys were sheet-cut decades ago by legendary hobby pioneer Frank Nagy, who in the 1970s had a pristine T204 Ramly sheet (the only one in existence), and this fact is likely related to the unparalleled perfection of this card. Ramlys are also among the most condition-sensitive sets in existence, with fragile gold borders easily susceptible to chipping. The offered example shows no evidence of any chipping at the corners or along the borders and displays only a small trace of chipping in the area directly underneath the right side of the oval portrait. It is perfectly centered with four sharp corners, an exceptionally clean and crisp image, and a boldly printed reverse. The next highest-graded example listed on the SGC Population Report is a NM 84. This is an absolutely stunning example of Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown in unparalleled NM/MT condition that would be a significant addition or upgrade to any T204 Ramly, Hall of Fame, or vintage-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,851
