Pair of Signed 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Signed "Welcome Home" Dinner Programs

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $415

Before the start of each season, the Brooklyn Dodgers were traditionally feted by the Dodger Knot-Hole Club at a special "Welcome Home" dinner held at the Hotel St. George in Brooklyn. Offered here are two fold-over programs issued for the 1947 event, both of which have been signed by a number of Dodgers players and guests. The first example has been signed on both covers or the interior by the following twenty-eight individuals: Pee Wee Reese, Joe Hatten, Hal Gregg, Gene Mauch, Rex Barney, Carl Furillo, Bobby Bragan, Stan Rojak, Ed Stevens, Wayne Johnson, Eddie Stanky, Dick Whitman, Ed Head, Hank Behrman, Leo Durocher, Laraine Day Durocher, Dixie Walker, Pete Reiser, Hugh Casey, Duke Snider, Clyde King, Dixie Howell, Harry Taylor, Paul Minner, Ed Heusser, Cookie Lavagetto, Arky Vaughan, and Vic Lombardi. All of the signatures, grading "9" on average, are in black ink with the exception of Leo Durocher (pencil), Laraine Day Durocher (blue ink), and Dixie Walker (pencil). The program (6.5 x 10 inches) has a heavy vertical fold and moderate staining. In Good to Very Good condition. The second program is signed on the cover in pencil, averaging "9," by the following five individuals: Gil Hodges, Bruce Edwards, Johnny Van Cuyk, Andy Anderson, and Eddie Stanky. The program is lightly stained and in Very Good condition. Accompanying the programs is an original panoramic photograph (20 x 12 inches) of the 1947 dinner (produced by Knickerbocker Pictures of Brooklyn) that pictures nearly all of the guests and a partial view of the seated players at the dais. The photo is rolled and displays a number of minor creases as a result, as well as a few edge tears. In Very Good condition. Together with two attendance lists, one for the 1947 "Welcome Home" dinner (Vg) and another for the 1951 "Welcome Home" dinner (Ex). Total: 5 items (2 dinner programs, two attendance lists, and a photo). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $415
