1949 Ty Cobb Signed Government Postcard and Magazine Photo

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,963

Each of these Ty Cobb signed items, a magazine photo and government postcard, has a remarkably ideal provenance. Both were originally obtained by our consignor's husband, a lifelong autograph collector, who, starting in his teens, began the practice of writing players to ask for their autographs. They have remained in the family's sole possession since the day they were received! The magazine photo, which has been trimmed to its current dimensions (8 x 5 inches), is a reprint of the famous Charles Conlon photo capturing Cobb sliding into Jimmy Austin. It has been signed by Cobb in blue ink (grading "9/10") in the upper left corner. Ex-Mt. The government postcard, postmarked March 31, 1949, and personally addressed to our consignor's husband in Cobb's hand, is signed by Cobb in purple ink ("10") on the reverse. Near Mint condition. Total: 2 items (magazine photo and government postcard). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
