Circa 1930s Multisigned Ball with Lou Gehrig
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $7,110
Goldsmith "Official League Ball" signed in blue and black fountain pen by the following eight players: Lou Gehrig (grading "8/9"), Chuck Klein, Gabby Hartnett, Eddie Collins, Charlie Grimm, Charlie Root, Billy Jurges, and Phil Cavaretta (sweet spot). Signatures range from "6" to "8/9," averaging "7/8." The most likely date of signing for this ball is 1935, because that was the one season in which Cavaretta, Klein, Jurges, Root, and Hartnett, were all regulars with the Chicago Cubs (Grimm was the manager of Chicago that year). Gehrig, of course was with the Yankees in 1935, while Collins was an executive with the Red Sox at the time. Regardless of the circumstances of its signing, it remains an extremely attractive 1930s-era signed ball featuring Gehrig and three other Hall of Famers. In Excellent to Mint condition, with bold manufacturer's stampings throughout. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $7,110
