1929-1934 Team-Signed Government-Postcard Collection with Many Hall of Famers (16 Postcards, 192 Signatures, 25+ HOFers)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,333
Remarkable collection of sixteen team-signed government postcards, all of which are postmarked between the years 1929 and 1934, featuring 192 total signatures, including those of thirty-three Hall of Famers (representing thirty different players). This extraordinary collection of signed government postcards was personally assembled by a family member of our consignor (to whom they are addressed) during the late 1920s and early 1930s. All have remained in the family's sole possession since that time and are being offered here for the very first time. (Additional signed government postcards from this amazing single-owner collection are being offered elsewhere in this auction in seven different lots.)
Seven of the postcards display adhesive residue and/or minor paper loss on the reverse as the result of having once been mounted, and then removed, from an album. Aside from that, the cards are in Very Good condition overall, with a few slightly lesser. The signatures have been executed in fountain pen, with the exception of ten (pencil), and range from "8" to "10," averaging "9." The name of each respective team has been handwritten on the card by the original owner. A few of the signatures are clubhouse examples and are duly noted.
