1928 Lou Gehrig Signed Chicago White Sox Program Cover
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,259
Chicago White Sox program cover signed by Lou Gehrig. Gehrig's signature has been flawlessly scripted in blue fountain pen and grades an essentially perfect "10." This is an exceptional Gehrig signature example and one that literally "jumps out" at the viewer from the soft, white background of the page. The date, "Aug-7-1928," is written in blue fountain pen to the left of Gehrig's signature. It should be emphasized that only the front and back cover of the program remain. All of the interior pages have been removed and are no longer present. However, research indicates that the Yankees defeated the White Sox 6-3 at Comiskey Park on August 7, 1928, with Gehrig contributing two singles and two RBI in his club's victory. The program (6 x 9 inches) displays both a vertical and horizontal fold, with tears along the lines of each fold. A number of additional edge tears are also evident. Gehrig's signature is unaffected by any of the flaws and this remains an extremely striking and ideal-for-display Gehrig-signed item dating from the Yankees' 1928 World Championship season. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,259
