1971 Topps Complete Set (752)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,422
51% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (with a few better), 44% Ex, and 5% Vg-Ex. The black flush-to-the-border design of the 1971 Topps set makes this issue particularly challenging to collect in high grade. This is an extremely attractive set, bright and crisp throughout. Sets of 1971 Topps are also much more difficult to find than sets issued just a few years later for one very simple reason: Starting in 1973 Topps issued the entire set all at once, and sets could much more easily be assembled by collectors and for resale by dealers. In the years prior to 1973, each 132-card series was issued as the season progressed, making even the assembly of sets a much more involved process requiring patience and dedication. As the sets grew in size in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the final series of cards would sometimes not be met with the demand of earlier series (especially as the season was naturally coming to an end), resulting in the relative scarcity of the final series cards for many Topps sets of the era (including 1971). This is a sharp-looking set from the days when putting together even the current-year Topps set was a challenge! Keys: #5 Munson (EX 5), 20 Jackson (Ex+), 100 Rose (Ex), 129 Monteagudo (NM-MT 8), 160 Seaver (Ex+), 250 Bench (Ex), 326 Scheinblum (MINT 9), 341 Garvey RC (Ex-Mt+), 400 Aaron (Ex), 513 Ryan (NM 7), 525 Banks (Ex), 600 Mays (Vg-Ex+), 630 Clemente (Ex+), 640 F. Robinson (Ex-Mt), 709 Baylor/Baker RC (Vg-Ex). Total: 752 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,422
