1962 Topps Baseball File Binder from the 1989 Topps/Guernsey's Auction (175 cards)
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,067
Presented is a three-ring binder housing 175 1962 Topps baseball cards (two of each card from #89 to 176, except only one card of #160) from the files of the Topps Company, preserved and displayed in a very unique manner. These are the actual file copy cards kept by Topps for its archives. This binder was first sold at the famous 1989 Topps/Guernsey's auction (lot #BB294). Each page in the binder has six cards (three different cards, displaying the front and back of each card) neatly mounted by means of glue on the reverse. One page is missing the back of card #160. No card #159 is included, but two copies of #139 Reniff are present (both have come loose from the page). Reniff is featured on two different card numbers (#139 and 159) in the 1962 Topps series. Highlighted by several key cards, including Boog Powell rookie, Warren Spahn, Bill Skowron, Babe Hit 60, Gehrig and Ruth, Al Kaline, Tim McCarver rookie, and Ron Santo. Additional note: Included are many scarce second-series (#110-196) green-tint variation cards. The cards are pack-fresh, right off the printing press, and grade Nr/Mt overall. These cards naturally have a special historical significance as Topps file cards. In recent years, Topps has offered file cards and pages removed from albums individually (that were not sold at the 1989 Topps auction) through The Topps Vault (on eBay) and these cards have sold for significant premiums. The cards could be professionally removed if desired. This binder appeared as Lot #674 in REA's 2012 auction (realizing $1,067) and has been consigned directly by the buyer at that sale. Total: 175 cards in one binder. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
