1966 Topps Complete Set (598)

Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $14,220

16% Nr/Mt-Mt, 78% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, and 6% Ex. Complete set of 598 cards from the 1966 Topps series, plus four checklist variations for a total of 602 cards. This is an extremely crisp, clean, high-grade set, very likely assembled straight from packs or vending boxes in the year of issue. After winning the Most Valuable Player award in 1965, Willie Mays was honored by Topps with its card #1 position in the 1966 set. The set is also well known for the scarcity of the high-number series, with many single-printed cards, in addition to being the only Topps set to feature Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays on the same card (#215). We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Mays (Ex), 30 Rose (Ex), 50 Mantle (NM/MT+ 92), 70 Yastrzemski (Nr/Mt), 72 Perez (Ex), 100 Koufax (NM 84), 110 Banks (Nr/Mt), 120 Killebrew (Nr/Mt+), 125 Brock (Nr/Mt+), 126 Palmer RC (Nr/Mt-Mt), 160 Ford (Nr/Mt+), 195 Morgan (Ex), 200 Mathews (Ex-Mt), 215 NL Batting LDRS (Ex-Mt+), 254 Jenkins RC (Ex-Mt), 288 Sutton RC (Nr/Mt+), 300 Clemente (EX+ 70), 310 F. Robinson (Ex), 320 Gibson (Ex-Mt+), 365 Maris (Ex-Mt), 390 B. Robinson (Nr/Mt), 410 Kaline (Ex-Mt), 500 Aaron (Ex), 526 Twins (Nr/Mt+), 530 Roberts (Ex-Mt+), 535 Davis SP (Ex), 540 McLain (Nr/Mt+), 550 McCovey (Nr/Mt), 580 B. Williams (Ex), 583 Tigers (Ex+), 590 Skowron (Nr/Mt-Mt), and 598 Perry (Ex). The four variations are for checklist cards #101, 183, 444, and 517. Centering is most often the only technical fault with many of the lesser-graded cards in this set. From an old-time collection, this set has been stored away for decades. This is an exceptionally attractive, fresh-looking, high-grade complete set, filled with stars and Hall of Famers, dating from the heart of the 1960s. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (factoring in the two half grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the 599 ungraded cards) is $885. Total: 602 cards (598 cards plus four variations). Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $14,220
