1952 Berk Ross Partial Set (45/72) Including SGC EX/NM 80 Mantle

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $2,666

Presented is an extremely attractive partial set of 1952 Berk Ross, comprised of forty-five of the seventy-two cards in a complete set, highlighted by a superb SGC EX/NM 80 example of key card Mickey Mantle (submitted by REA). Condition: 80% grade Ex to Ex-Mt and 20% grade Ex (including a few lesser) mostly due to centering, which is a common flaw for this issue. 1952 Berk Ross is a fascinating set as it includes Mickey Mantle in the same pose as on his 1951 Bowman rookie card. The 1952 Berk Ross cards are similar in design to the 1951 Berk Ross card set, though slightly different in dimensions (they are larger and vertical in format) and the set was issued as individual cards instead of the perforated two-card panel design from the previous year. The 1952 set is exclusively baseball. (The 1951 set featured stars from other sports as well.) Keys: Ashburn (Ex), Berra (Ex-Mt), Campanella (Ex-Mt), Fox (Vg-Ex), Hodges (Ex-Mt), Irvin (Vg), Kell (Ex+), Lemon (Ex), Mantle (SGC EX/NM 80), Martin (Ex), Mays (thin top border, otherwise Ex-Mt), Rizzuto/bunting (Ex+), Jackie Robinson (thin bottom border, otherwise Ex), Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), and Ted Williams (ink mark on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex+). This is a very attractive partial set of this substantial early 1950s issue. The 1952 Berk Ross set is among the most interesting and overlooked sets of the era. It is also far rarer than collectors realize. (Unlike the 1951 set, there were never any 1952 sets available from Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards.) The equivalent SMR value for just the graded Mickey Mantle card is $950. Total: 45 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,666
