1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams PSA EX-MT 6

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,295

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA (submitted by REA). Magnificent high-grade example of Ted Williams, the key card from the very popular Wilson Franks set. The Wilson Franks set is highly prized by collectors as one of the most attractive and desirable of all 1950s regional issues. In an era dominated by bubble-gum card sets featuring hundreds of players, the distinctive and beautifully designed Wilson Franks, with only twenty cards, each featuring a package of hot dogs in the background, stands out. The Ted Williams card from this set is all the more significant, not just as the the key star in the set, but as one of the most sought-after of all Ted Williams cards. Crisp and clean, with a well-focused image, four sharp corners, bright colors, and a flawless reverse. Outstanding centering all around. A case could be made that this card was perhaps a little conservatively graded as it would not appear out of place in a higher-grade holder in our opinion. Tremendous example of this extremely popular postwar card, which would make an extremely significant addition to any Ted Williams, Wilson Franks, or classic-card collection. The SMR value in the assigned grade is $8,500. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,295
