1952 Bowman Complete Set (252)

Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $3,851

44% Ex, 39% Vg-Ex, and 17% Vg (including a few lesser). This is a very pleasing mid-grade set, highlighted by particularly strong examples of key Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. We submitted both Mantle and Mays to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Berra (Pr), 4 Roberts (Vg+), 5 Minoso RC (Gd), 8 Reese (Ex), 11 Kiner (Vg-Ex+), 21 Fox (Vg), 23 Lemon (Vg-Ex), 30 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 33 McDougald RC (Vg-Ex+), 43 Feller (Vg-Ex+), 44 Campanella (Vg-Ex+), 52 Rizzuto (Vg-Ex), 53 Ashburn (Vg-Ex), 75 Kell (Ex), 80 Hodges (Ex), 101 Mantle (SGC EX 60), 115 Doby (Vg), 116 Snider (Ex), 142 Wynn (Pr), 145 Mize (Vg), 146 Durocher (Vg-Ex+), 156 Spahn (Ex), 162 Irvin (Ex), 196 Musial (Fr), 217 Stengel (Ex), 218 Mays (SGC EX+ 70), 232 Slaughter (Ex+), and 252 Crosetti (Vg-Ex). Consigned from a old-time collection. It's easy to see why sets in mixed and lower grades put together by collectors long ago are always in high demand. They are great-looking cards, they don't cost a fortune as do high-grade sets, and represent a great collecting value. A relatively affordable yet still very attractive complete set of this classic, early 1950s Bowman issue. The equivalent SMR value for just the two graded cards (factoring in the Mays at the lower whole-grade level and not including the 250 ungraded cards) is $1,300. Total: 252 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $3,851
