1953 Topps Complete Set (274)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,295

24% Ex-Mt, 47% Ex, and 24% Vg to Vg-Ex, 5% lesser. This is a very attractive mid-grade complete set of 1953 Topps, highlighted by a great-looking example of the key card to the set: #82 Mickey Mantle. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. The cards are classic, they look great, and they don't cost a fortune compared to higher-grade cards. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Robinson (Fr), 10 Burgess SP (Ex), 27 Campanella (EX/NM 80), 37 Mathews (Ex), 41 Slaughter (Ex), 43 McDougald (Vg-Ex+), 54 Feller (EX/NM+ 82), 61 Wynn SP (Vg-Ex+), 62 Irvin (Ex), 76 Reese (Vg-Ex+), 77 Mize (Gd+), 78 Schoendienst (Ex), 81 Black SP (Ex), 82 Mantle (EX 60), 86 Martin (Ex), 87 Lopat (Ex), 104 Berra (Ex), 114 Rizzuto (Vg), 119 Sain SP (Ex+), 138 Kell (Ex), 147 Spahn (Ex), 149 DiMaggio (Ex), 151 Wilhelm (Ex+), 162 Kluszewski (Ex), 191 Kiner (Pr/Fr), 207 Ford (Vg), 220 Paige (Vg), 228 Newhouser (Ex-Mt), 244 Mays (Pr), 246 Face (Gd/Vg), 254 Roe (Pr), 258 Gilliam SP (Vg-Ex), 263 Podres SP (Ex), 264 Woodling (Ex), 265 Jensen SP (Ex+), 273 Haddix SP (Ex+), and 280 Bolling (Vg+). This is a very attractive and relatively affordable mid-grade complete set of one of card collecting's most popular issues, with a particularly strong example of key card #82 Mickey Mantle. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (factoring in the one half grade at the lower whole-grade level and not including the 271 ungraded cards!) is $1,600. Total: 274 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $8,295
