1952 Topps #407 Eddie Mathews PSA EX 5

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,148

Graded EX 5 by PSA (submitted by REA). In addition to being his rookie card, 1952 Topps card #407 Eddie Mathews is also one of only a few key Hall of Famers in the rare high-number series, and as the last card in the set, is also a condition rarity. Just as card #1 Pafko was subject to wear due to gravitating to the top of the pile, #407 Mathews was also subject to excessive wear at the bottom of the pile. In anything even resembling high grade, this has always been a very difficult card for anyone putting together a quality 1952 Topps set. The image on the front of the offered #407 Mathews is very well centered (slightly to the bottom left), which is usually not the case with this card, with original gloss and even wear on all four corners (a little bit more in the upper left). Tiny, unobtrusive specs of excess print are visible in the right border but do not detract from the overall visual appeal in any way. The reverse of the card is perfectly clean. Solid EX card with fantastic eye-appeal. SMR value is $3,750. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,148
