1956 Topps Display Box and Wax Wrapper Collection
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,185
Collection of materials relating to the packaging and sale of the 1956 Topps baseball series. 1) One-Cent Wax Wrapper: Bright and bold with the repeating design of two red, white, and blue players (one pitcher and one batter) alongside the "Topps Baseball Picture Card Bubble Gum 1¢" text, all set against a yellow background. Flattened to dimensions of 5 x 6.5 inches, the wrapper displays in overall Near Mint condition with normal fold lines visible. 2) Five-Cent Wax Wrapper: Orange bar variation. The image of a large pitcher is positioned in the middle of the bright yellow wrapper, with the "Topps Baseball Picture Card Bubble Gum 5¢" text printed on top of the image. An ad for Bazooka Bubble Gum is printed on the left border. Flattened to dimensions of 5-7/8 x 6-3/8 inches, the wrapper presents as Near Mint but would technically grade more modestly due to a 3-inch repaired tear along the right border. 3) Bazooka Prize Insert: Crisp and clean red, white, and blue prize insert advertising a free copy of the Bazooka prize book, as well as offering prize #224, a Bazooka Gob Hat, in exchange for 250 comics or 50¢ and ten comics. Measuring 4-1/2 x 5-7/8 inches, the insert is in overall Near Mint condition. 4) Five-Cent Display Box: Designed to house twenty-four five-cent wax packs, the yellow box features a large pitcher on the top panel with "Topps Baseball Picture Card Bubble Gum 5¢" text printed in red and black. The front panel features a similar batter design, while the back panel features Bazooka prize information. The two side panels feature a baseball and text only. The box displays in Excellent condition, with light shelf wear along the edges and a "230562" stamp in the upper left corner. The box has been inconspicuously glued closed and could likely be carefully opened if desired. These items would be superb companion pieces to any complete 1956 Topps set or worthy additions to any advertising or display collection. Total: 4 items. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
