1951 Topps Connie Mack All-Stars Babe Ruth & 1959 Home Run Derby Hank Aaron SGC-Graded Pair
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067
Pair of SGC-graded cards from two classic 1950s issues featuring iconic Hall of Famers and former home-run leaders, Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron. 1) 1951 Topps Connie Mack's All-Stars Babe Ruth: FAIR 20, extremely attractive with bold colors, a crisp image of Ruth, and clean front and back. Much stronger appearance than suggested by its modest technical SGC grade. Downgraded due to a small tear at the border above Ruth's bat as well as light vertical wrinkling extending from Ruth's head to the top border. 2) 1959 Home Run Derby Hank Aaron: VG 40, presents as Ex to Ex-Mt with near-perfect centering, strong corners, and clean front and back. Downgraded due to a tiny, almost imperceptible crease in the center near Aaron's bat. Interestingly, this is the same flaw that was found on every card in a complete set offered in REA's Spring 2013 auction, which suggests that this is perhaps a production-related flaw common to 1959 Home Run Derby cards and not a condition issue caused by handling through the years. This is an exceptionally attractive pairing of cards featuring two iconic Hall of Famers, Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron, from two popular and scare 1950s sets. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,067
