1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $10,665

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC (submitted by REA). Very attractive Vg+ example of 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Topps rookie card is the key to the 1952 Topps set, one of the most famous of all cards, and the single most popular and valuable postwar baseball card. This card was one of the highlights of an extensive card collection consigned to this auction by the family of an old-time collector. The gentleman who collected this card assembled a complete low-number run of 1952 Topps and only had a few of the scarcer high-number cards, one of which happened to be #311 Mantle! This is a magnificent example with brilliant colors and near-perfect centering (which is especially desirable for this card, which is often found off-center to some extent). The blue background has just the lightest hint of surface wear, and the card has some with honest wear to each of the four corners. No creases. This is a tremendous, very well-centered, mid-grade example, with strong visual appeal. This card presents an outstanding opportunity to acquire an exceptionally attractive example of Mickey Mantle's most celebrated card in an extremely desirable condition, yet very possibly at a small fraction of the cost of a higher-grade example. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $10,665
