1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax Rookie SGC NM/MT 88
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,252
Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Striking ultra high-grade rookie card of Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. Only fifteen examples have ever been graded higher by SGC (eight SGC NM-MT+ 92 and seven SGC MINT 96) out of an extraordinary 819 examples evaluated to date. This is one of the 1950s' most famous and noteworthy cards. The 1955 Topps Koufax rookie (#123) is also the most valuable card in that year's set after Roberto Clemente's rookie card in the high-number series. The card displays four sharp corners, with brilliant colors and flawless registration. Centered slightly to the top, with just a few printing specs in the yellow background, which are so common to this card. Perfectly clean reverse with only a tiny unobtrusive print line near the bottom left corner (of no consequence and mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). This is a particularly stunning world-class example of Sandy Koufax's rookie card, one of the most popular and classic of all 1950s bubble-gum cards. The equivalent SMR value is $2,850. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,252
