1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson Rookie

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,659

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC. Presented is a very attractive example of the 1948 Leaf Gum rookie card of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. The 1948-1949 Leaf Bubble Gum card of Robinson is one of the most popular, striking, and classic of all Jackie Robinson cards. The offered example displays a perfectly crisp image with flawless registration and four sharp corners. Centered to the right. The reverse is boldly printed with faint traces of glue removal in each of the four corners. It appears that this card was removed from an album (likely the reason it has been preserved so beautifully) and SGC has downgraded it accordingly. This exceptionally attractive card presents a rare collecting opportunity to acquire a modestly graded example of one of the icons of postwar Hall of Fame card collecting, and in the eyes of many, Jackie Robinson's single most desirable baseball card, at a fraction of the cost that a higher-grade example would command, without sacrificing anything in the way of eye-appeal. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,659
