1887 N184 W. S. Kimball Champions James "Tip" O'Neil

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Only two examples have ever been graded higher by SGC. Exceptionally attractive high-grade example of James "Tip" O'Neil from the N184 W. S. Kimball Champions set. Kimballs are considered by many to be among the most beautiful of all of the nineteenth-century tobacco issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports, among them four baseball players. Crisp and clean with light, even wear to the four corners, flawless registration, and centered almost entirely to the right. Boldly printed checklist back with moderate to heavy toning affecting most of the reverse. While there are no Hall of Famers among the four baseball players in the N184 Kimball Champions set, James "Tip" O'Neil is the most prominent star among the four. This is a very attractive and high-grade example of the key card from one of tobacco-card collecting's most classic issues. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $830
