1939 R334 Play Ball #26 Joe DiMaggio SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,067

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Crisp, high-grade example of Joe DiMaggio's most recognizable card produced at the very beginning of his Major League career. One of card collecting's great classics of the era, this is one of the keys to the 1939 Play Ball set, and one of the most popular of all prewar baseball cards. This striking example has four strong corners displaying just the lightest touches of wear under close inspection, and a crystal clear image of the "Yankee Clipper" in a portrait pose centered just a hint to the top left. A small area of discoloration is faintly visible in the upper right corner, both front and back, and is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy although it does not detract from the overall visual appeal. This is an outstanding high-grade example of one of the key cards from the 1939 Play Ball set and one of the most popular cards of the era. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $1,200. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,067
