Extremely Rare 1933 R300 George C. Miller Wrapper

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,036

Presented is an extremely rare R300 George C. Miller wax wrapper, one of the great and most elusive treasures of all 1930s wrapper collecting. This is the first and only example we have ever personally seen, let alone offered. Two variations are known to exist for the wax wrappers which housed the beautiful George C. Miller cards: one features the names of the eight American League teams in individual baseballs on front, while the other features the names of the eight National League teams in individual pennants on front. The offered example is the American League version and is one of only two examples known to exist of this rare wrapper variation. A single example of the National League variation has been confirmed. Among 1930s gum- and candy-card issues, few are accorded more respect than the 32-card set issued by the George C. Miller Company of Boston. They are one of card collecting's most distinctive and beautiful card issues, as well as one of the 1930s rarest and most highly respected sets. In addition to their great rarity and the fact that the set includes so many great stars of the early 1930s, each card is a work of art. The wrappers are also among the more creatively and artistically designed of the decade. The offered example, which has been neatly flattened, measures approximately 7.25 by 5 inches. It presents with bold colors, crisp illustrations, and normal fold lines. Additional wrinkling is visible throughout as well as a few light, scattered stains, likely caused by the toffee with which the cards were issued. Framed and matted to dimensions of approximately 12 by 10 inches, the wrapper has an outstanding overall display value despite these technical faults. This is an extraordinarily rare wrapper from one of the most fascinating and distinctive of all sets from the 1930s which would be a tremendous companion piece to any R300 complete set or a worthy addition to any world-class wrapper collection. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,036
