1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee #106 Jimmie Foxx PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,015
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA (submitted by REA). One of only four graded at this level with just one higher. Magnificent ultra high-grade example of Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx (identified as Jimmy on the card) from the V300 O-Pee-Chee set (often referred to by collectors as "Canadian Batter-Ups"). Issued in 1937, Foxx is one of the key Hall of Famers from this rare, unusual, and very substantial 1930s Canadian issue. Cards from the 1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee set are very difficult to find in high grade. These cards are designed with die-cut backgrounds that can be punched out and folded back to allow each card to stand up. Because of this design, many V300s are naturally found in damaged condition, and in many cases are found with the die-cut backgrounds entirely lost. This example displays a crisp, perfectly focused image, with four sharp corners, and the background is complete and intact. The reverse is clean with bold black text printed in both English and French. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of one of Foxx’s rarest and most distinctive cards that would be a worthy addition to any Hall of Fame or sample-card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,015
