1933 V353 World Wide Gum Canadian Goudey Collection (32)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,659

Outstanding collection of thirty-two different 1933 V353 Canadian Goudey cards, highlighted by Benny Bengough and Hall of Famers Tony Lazzeri and Paul Waner. This collection represents approximately one-third of a complete set. The V353 World Wide Gum series (commonly referred as “Canadian Goudeys”) is complete at only ninety-four cards. They are identical in design to their American counterparts on the fronts, but with the text on the backs printed in French and English, or entirely in English, and with the first 52 cards sharing the same card number on the back as their American counterparts, while players numbered 53 to 94 have different numbers in the American series. These cards are from a collection that is new to the modern collecting world collection and has remained in the possession of the original-owner's family until just recently. Their exceptional high grade is due to the good fortune of having been stored away, undisturbed, for decades. (Note: The #85 Jimmy Foxx from the collection, as well as an additional SGC-graded group of seventeen, are offered as separate lots.) Eleven cards are graded by PSA. This collection consists of the following: #1 Bengough (Vg-Ex), 3, 6 (NM 7), 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 (NM 7), 15, 16 (EX-MT 6), 21 (EX-MT 6), 24 (EX-MT 6), 25 (EX-MT 6), 27 (NM-MT 8), 30, 31 Lazzeri (Vg), 32, 36, 39, 45, 46, 48, 51, 59 (NM-MT 8), 61, 65, 70, 73 (NM 7), 76 (NM 7), 78, 79 (NM 7), and 81. The ungraded cards grade Ex to Ex-Mt, with four lesser. This is an exceptionally attractive collection of this rare, unusual, and very substantial 1930s Canadian Goudey issue. The SMR value in the assigned grades for just the eleven graded cards (not including the additional twenty-one ungraded cards) is $920. Total: 32 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,659
