1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth SGC EX 60

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,110

Graded EX 60 by SGC (Lionel Carter Collection). Extremely attractive example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards: #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and most sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This is an exceptionally attractive card, bright and clean, with light, even wear to all four corners (most noticeable in the bottom right) and virtually perfect registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). Centered to the left. There is a light wrinkle present on the otherwise clean reverse, with bold green print set against the clean white background. The "Lionel Carter Collection" designation on this card is of special note as it refers to the fact that this card was part of the personal collection of Lionel Carter, one of organized card collecting's most legendary pioneers. In fact, it is very possible that Lionel Carter personally pulled this very card out of a pack in 1933! This is a very attractive example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series, with an added significant provenance relating to hobby history. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $7,110
