1933 to 1938 Goudey SGC-Graded Collection (3): Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $6,518

Collection of three 1930s Goudey cards featuring legendary Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio. Each card in this trio is an iconic card often found on lists of all-time classic baseball cards. Purchased by our consignor in the days prior to professional grading, each of these cards at the time was described as Near Mint or better and was selected for inclusion in his advanced prewar-card collection due to their extraordinary eye-appeal. The three cards have since been professionally graded and encapsulated as "Authentic" by SGC (submitted by REA) due to evidence of trimming. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1933 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig: Well-centered example with bright white borders, four strong corners showing only minor touches of wear (most noticeable in the upper left), and a crisp image with flawless registration and bold colors. Clean reverse. Trimmed on the bottom border. We grade this card EX+ without respect to the trimming. 2) 1933 Sport Kings #2 Babe Ruth: Centered to the bottom, light even wear on the four corners, clean both front and back. Slight evidence of trimming on top and bottom borders. We grade this card EX without respect to the trimming. 3) 1938 Goudey #274 Joe DiMaggio: Near-perfect centering, bright white stock, crisp image with vibrant colors, and four strong corners. Clean, boldly printed reverse. We do not see clear-cut trimming as with the other two cards. We grade this card EX-MT+ without respect to the opinion of SGC. This is an extraordinary trio of cards, each featuring an iconic Hall of Famer in one of his most popular cards, that offers an outstanding opportunity to acquire examples at a fraction of the cost of numerically graded examples with similar tremendous eye-appeal. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $6,518
