1933 R338 Goudey "Sport Kings" Near-Complete Set (44/48)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963

Very attractive low to medium-grade near-complete set of 1933 R338 "Sport Kings" consisting of 44 of the 48 cards which comprise this classic multisport 1930s prewar-gum issue. The set is missing only four cards for completion (#2 Ruth, 27 Turner, 34, and 42 Hubbell). We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Condition composite: Five cards grade Ex-Mt: #7, 11, 12, 14, and 20 Kahanamoku (SGC EX/NM 80). Three cards grade Vg-Ex: #5 Wachter, 30 Johnson, and 35 Rockne (SGC VG/EX 50). One card grades Vg: #32 Lopchick. Four cards grade Good: #1 Ty Cobb (SGC GOOD+ 35), 13, 25, and 36 Hoppe. Five cards in lesser grades: #17 Dempsey, 21 Weissmuller, 29 Bailey, 38 Jones, and 39. Twenty-six cards have a hole-punch in the lower right corner: #3 Holman, 4 Grange, 6 Thorpe, 8 Hagen, 9, 10, 15, 16 Tilden, 18 Tunney, 19 Shore, 22 Sarazen, 23, 24 Morenz, 26, 28 Doolittle, 31, 33 Burke, 37, 40, 41, 43 Carnera, 44 Baer, 45 Didrickson, 46, 47, and 48 Seppala. This is relatively affordable (due to many cards being in modest grade) yet still very attractive near-complete set, with many highlights, and with many of the lesser-graded cards having a far superior eye appeal than their technically accurate assigned grades suggest. The equivalent SMR value just on the three graded cards is $1,150. Total: 44 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,963
