1933 to 1948 Goudey, Butterfinger, and Swell Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948

Presented is a collection of three classic cards featuring legendary New York Yankees Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. 1) 1933 R309 Goudey Babe Ruth Premium: One of the most substantial of all Ruth cards, this premium was available to youngsters only by mail in exchange for fifty 1933 "Big League Chewing Gum" wrappers. The offered premium is exceptional with four strong corners and a virtually flawless surface, free of any creases or wrinkles and displaying only two sets of tiny staple holes in the top border (suggesting that this may have long ago been a Goudey file copy). Presents as Ex-Mt, though technically lesser due to these holes. Complete with easel attached on reverse. Dimensions: 5.5 by 9 inches. 2) 1934 R310 Butterfinger Premiums Lou Gehrig: Extremely presentable example of Gehrig from this large premium issue printed on thin, fragile stock. Presents as Excellent though technically lesser due to a tiny tear at the top and left edges as well as a small area of paper loss on the reverse. Dimensions: 7.75 by 9.5 inches. 3) 1948 Swell Sport Thrills #14 Lou Gehrig: Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. One of the key cards from this very scarce and overlooked gum-card set featuring great events in baseball history. This card commemorates Gehrig's four home runs in a single game. Well centered and free of any wrinkles or creases with light even wear to the corners. This is an impressive trio of three unusual classics, potentially representing an outstanding collecting value, featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Total: 3 items. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
