1923 W572 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,541

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Only three examples grade higher. Attractive example of Babe Ruth from the W572 strip-card series. The 1923 W572 series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. Very few comprehensive baseball-card sets featuring 100+ players were issued in the early 1920s, and W572 is one of the few. This classic 1920-era strip-card issue includes many of the great stars and Hall of Famers of the decade. These cards were originally issued in ten-card strips and are often found with irregularly cut borders as they were cut by hand from the strips as intended. The card displays excellent centering, a strong image, and even wear to the four corners. The left border has a slightly irregular cut. The blank reverse is entirely clean. This is a very pleasing examples in relatively high-grade (for this issue) of one of Babe Ruth's most classic 1920s strip cards and one that would be a worthy addition to any Babe Ruth, strip-card, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,541
