1921 Exhibit Supply Company Complete Set (64)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,015

Complete set of sixty-four cards, including twenty-one Hall of Famers, from the classic 1921 Exhibits series. This set is especially noteworthy as 1921 was the very first year the legendary Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago issued cards. It would go on to issue sets for the next fifty years! These cards were sold by Exhibit card machines at amusement parks and penny arcades, one penny per card. The key card from the 1921 Exhibits set is of the legendary Babe Ruth. This is one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. When this set was issued, it happened to be a great era for Hall of Famers. This set is loaded! The additional Hall of Famers featured in the set include Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Walter Johnson, and Tris Speaker, plus sixteen others. Keys: Alexander (Fr), Bancroft (ink stamp on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), Carey (Ex), Cobb (Pr), Collins (Gd), Coveleski (Pr), Faber (Ex), Frisch (Vg+), Grimes (Pr), Haines (Ex), Harris (Vg-Ex+), Hornsby (Pr, all four corners clipped), Johnson (Pr), Kelly (Ex), Maranville (Ex), Rice (Vg), Ruth (Pr), Schalk (Vg-Ex), Sisler (Fr), Speaker (Pr), and Wheat (Fr). The balance of the cards range from Vg to Ex (nine of which have pencil writing or ink stamps on back and would technically grade modestly) and seven lesser. In addition to its great significance as the Exhibit Supply Company's first set, this set is extremely substantial, offers far rarer cards than many other sets from the era, and represents an extraordinary collecting value for quality cards from the 1920s. Total: 64 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,015
