1918 Zeenut PCL Edward Mensor With Coupon - Ex-Buck Barker Collection!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067

Attractive example of Edward Mensor of the Oakland Oaks from the 1918 Zeenut PCL series with the original coupon attached to the bottom. The 1918 Zeenut set is considered by many to be among the rarest of all Zeenut series, and they are also the most distinctive in design with red borders framing the player image. Mensor is a particularly desirable card within the set as he is one of a very small number of Jewish ballplayers featured in the Zeenut series, which enhances demand for his card among collectors. The offered example is all the more noteworthy as it was once part of the Buck Barker Collection. Notations by the legendary Buck Barker in his trademark handwriting give this card an additional special historical distinction. Graded VG-EX 4 (MK) by PSA, this is the only example, in any grade, ever graded by either PSA or SGC. The MK qualifier is related to the writing on reverse, which, as mentioned, is in the hand of Buck Barker and adds a significance that is not reflected by the qualifier. The card is bright and crisp with light wear to the corners and along the edges. This outstanding example of this extremely desirable card is in far better condition than normally encountered for this series and has the special distinction of having originated from the personal collection of hobby legend Buck Barker. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
