1917 H801-8 Boston Store SGC-Graded Collection (25)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,555
Extremely highly graded collection of twenty-five different H801-8 Boston Store cards, each professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). This is an amazing small collection of these rare cards (which is actually a fairly large group for Boston Store cards and in fact represents 12.5% of the entire 200-card set). The 1917 Boston Store cards are extremely difficult to find in high grade. Like their E135 Collins-McCarthy counterparts, Boston Store cards are rarely offered in any condition. Unlike the somewhat similar 1916 Sporting News card set, these cards were never issued as complete sets to the public. They were also produced on a slightly thinner stock that is far more susceptible to wear, and with a very glossy surface which is very prone to creasing. Boston Store cards are usually encountered one card at a time and in low grade. Decades ago a perfect set of Boston Store cards surfaced. Judging from the incredible condition of these cards, we would be very surprised if at least some of these examples did not originate from that legendary high-grade set. This collection consists of the following: One NM-MT 88: #158. Six NM 84: #63, 66, 141, 152, 163, and 172. Two EX/NM+ 82: #44 and 148. Two EX/NM 80: #177 and 199. One EX+ 70: #94. Four EX 60: #7, 42, 128, and 197. One VG/EX 50: #5. One VG 40: #57. Seven Authentic: #50, 102, 103, 138, 140, 141, and 144. The cards graded Authentic all present as Ex to Nr/Mt but are slightly undersized. We do not believe these cards are trimmed but some do have slightly irregular cuts and they did not receive numerical grades (Note: all 25 cards in this lot were submitted by REA). All twelve cards in this collection graded EX+ or higher are the only examples graded at their respective levels with none higher. This extraordinary collection of H801-8 Boston Store cards in unparalleled high grade would make an outstanding contribution to the upgrading of almost any set or sample-card collection. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $3,555
