1916 New York World "Leaders in Baseball" Blotters SGC-Graded Pair: Baker and Daubert
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $593
Pair of extremely rare advertising blotters from the New York World newspaper featuring Jake Daubert (Brooklyn Superbas) and Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker (New York Yankees). Issued as advertising promotional items for the newspaper in 1916, these blotters are part of the five-player second series of "Leaders in Baseball" according to the small checklist printed at the left edge (the other three in the set are Herzog, Robertson, and Hall of Famer Zach Wheat). These blotters also provide statistical information relating to the New York World's superior circulation and "agate lines" of advertising printed compared to five other leading New York newspapers. Each measures 9 by 4 inches, has been graded and encapsulated GOOD 30 by SGC due to light creasing visible in the thin stock and at the corners. They are otherwise boldly printed with clean, crisp player images and flawless blank reverses. We have never before offered even a single example from this series. This is a rare opportunity to acquire two examples from the set, including one featuring a Hall of Famer, each of which would greatly enhance any advertising or type-card collection. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $593
