1912 J=K Candy Harry Niles

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,659

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rare sample card of Cleveland Naps outfielder Harry Niles from the 1912 J=K Candy issue. This is a Type I card with a sepia-toned photo of Niles (pictured in a Boston uniform) in an outstretched fielding pose. Issued in 1912 by the J. Koenigsberg company of New York, each card was designed to be hand-cut from the side of a candy box containing one of the company's products. J=K Candy cards can be found in two distinct versions: the sepia Type I offered here and a colorized die-cut Type II variety. This card presents extremely well, far better than suggested by its technically accurate assigned grade. Crisp image with strong corners, flawless edges, and centered to the right. The blank reverse is entirely clean with only a one-inch long crease visible, which does not break through to the front, responsible for the modest grade. Samples from this unusual 1910-era candy issue are extremely rare! Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,659
