1910-1912 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 1) Josh Devore
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067
Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Extremely rare sample card of 1910-1912 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 1) featuring Josh Devore of the New York Giants. T215 Red Cross is one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked issues. Very similar in design to and borrowing images from the T206 set, T215 Red Cross cards are believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. This is an outstanding and particularly attractive card in all respects, and is simply far superior to what is normally found for Red Cross Tobacco. This is a stunning card, bright and clean, with vibrant colors, and four square corners. The flawless image is centered to the left. The reverse is also centered to the left (when held horizontally as intended), and is relatively clean and with bold crisp print, an ideal quality for a sample of this scarce issue. T215s tend to survive in very modest condition, which makes this sample all the more noteworthy. Only 237 T215 (of all Type 1 and Type 2 cards) examples have ever been graded by SGC; of these, only three have been graded EX+ 70 (including this card) and only two have ever been graded higher. This is an extraordinary high-grade sample from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest sets. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
