1889 N29 Allen & Ginter SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (45/50)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,148

Near-complete set of forty-five cards (out of fifty) from the N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" second series highlighted by the inclusion of five of the six baseball players featured in the set. Missing only Bauer, Ewing (baseball), Kerrigan, F. Murphy, and Ross for completion. N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" have long been recognized as one of the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. The six baseball players (five of whom are included here) are considered the key cards to the set but many other highlights and subsets (such as boxers and tennis players) of special note to collectors are included. The entire set is graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for four PSA as noted). SGC Grading Composite: EX/NM 80 (5 cards): Boyton, Clarke, Ford, J. Murphy, and Queckberner. EX+ 70 (7 cards): Bibby, Carter, Crocker, Ives, Paulsen, Rowe, and Temple. EX 60 (21 cards): Barry, Crist, Cummings, Daly, Duffy, Edwards, Fogarty (baseball), Getzin (baseball), Hill, LaBlanche, Lange, McCormack, McGee, Miller (baseball), Morrell (baseball, PSA EX 5), Myers, O'Connor, Ryan (baseball, PSA EX 5), Stone, Webb, and Wood. VG-EX+ 4.5 (1 card): Pettitt (PSA). VG/EX 50 (9 cards): Albert (PSA VG-EX 4.5), Dwight, East, Fitzgerald, George, Harradon, Havlin, Page, and Ray. VG 40 (2 cards): Sears and Slocum. All cards are bright and clean with even the modestly graded examples presenting at a level superior to their assigned grades. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a high-quality near-complete set of N29 Allen & Ginter. The equivalent SMR value for just the five baseball players is $2,075. (This figure does not include the additional forty cards!) Total: 45 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,148
