1911 T3 Turkey Red #42 Cy Young

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,133

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Presented is an exceptionally attractive and conservatively graded example of legendary Hall of Famer Cy Young. This is one of Cy Young's most important and majestic cards. Crisp and clean, both front and back, with bright, bold colors, strong square corners with just the slightest hint of wear, beautifully centered, checklist-style reverse with flawless bold print. Only five T3 examples of Cy Young have ever been graded higher by SGC (three EX, one EX+, and one EX-MT). Grading companies can be particularly hard on these large-format full-color cabinet cards. T3s are big cards, and there is a lot of surface area to look at, both front and back, to find minute flaws. We personally grade this card slightly higher than SGC and call it Excellent. Anything in the neighborhood of VG/EX or EX is an extremely high grade for a T3. Turkey Red cabinets are universally recognized as among the most beautiful baseball-card issues ever produced. One of the key cards in the T3 set, this card would make a very significant addition to any high-grade Turkey Red, Hall of Fame, or Cy Young card collection. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $2,200. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,133
