1887 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Danny Richardson

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,304

Stunning high-grade sample of one of the most revered of all nineteenth century baseball-card issues: the N173 Old Judge Goodwin cabinet-card series. The offered card features New York second baseman Danny Richardson (hands at side pose, #385-2). The image on this card is very bold, with strong contrast and tremendous detail. This extraordinary detail includes the pattern on his socks, the buttons on his shirt, even the laces on his shoes! Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back. Technically in Vg-Ex condition with light unobtrusive chipping to the mount at the corners and in a few spots along the left edge. There is a very fine surface scratch on the photograph of the card which runs diagonally from the left corner of Richardson's cap to the middle of his belt. This scratch is very subtle and does not affect the Ex-Mt overall appearance of the card. This is an exceptional example, with outstanding contrast and photo quality, from one of the nineteenth century's most substantial and highly regarded sets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,304
