1909-1911 T206 Solly Hofman - Broad Leaf 350 Back - Name on Top and Bottom - Only Graded Example!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,148

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. This is the only example of Solly Hofman with a rare Broad Leaf 350 advertising reverse graded (at any level) by SGC or PSA. Broad Leaf 350 series backs are unusual and very rare, though not quite as rare as the rarest T206 advertising backs (such as Broad Leaf 460 series, Drum, or Uzit). According to T206Resource.com, the Broad Leaf 350 series back ranks as the ninth scarcest on its list of thirty-nine different T206 advertising backs. This particular example, in addition to its extremely desirable reverse, is of special note as it features the nameplate "Hofman, Chicago Nat'l" on both the top and bottom of the card. This, of course, is a very unusual but not unheard of phenomenon, which occurs when the sheet is improperly printed or cut, but this is the only T206 example with an advertising reverse as significant as Broad Leaf 350 that we can recall ever seeing with this unusual cut (we have seen American Beauty, El Principe de Gales, and Polar Bear examples, in addition to the common Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, and Old Mill, but never, for instance, a Drum or Uzit). This is an unusual printing anomaly that can be appreciated at a glance. When it comes to the T206 set, which is the most highly collected of all vintage card sets, anything unusual (especially if it might in any way shed light on the mysteries of how the T206 set was printed) is of great note. The T206 set, affectionately known as "The Monster," is the most popular of all 1910-era sets and is still yielding new and exciting discoveries more than a century after its production. As collectors have become more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and unusual cards associated with this landmark set as well as an enthusiastic interest in collecting the different, untraditional advertising backs. We are sure that this card will be of great interest to T206 collectors for a number of different reasons. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,148
