1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson SGC NM/MT 88

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $7,110

Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. This is one of only three examples graded at this level by SGC with none higher! Outstanding ultra high-grade example of Cap Anson, the key card from the popular N28 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" series. N28 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" are considered by many to be the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. It is rare to find any nineteenth-century card in such high grade, let alone one of the era's most classic cards of such a prominent Hall of Famer. The card is crisp and clean, with four sharp corners, rich colors, and perfect registration. Centered slightly to the top with a tiny age spot on the extreme right border, entirely unobtrusive but mentioned for the sake of accuracy. The checklist reverse is also crisp and clean. This card is encapsulated in a first-generation SGC holder, dating to the early days of the company in 1998-1999, and no guarantees can be made that it would receive the same grade from SGC (or PSA) if resubmitted, as grading standards have evolved over the years. Only nine examples (of any subject) have ever achieved the grade of NM/MT according to the SGC Population Report, with only four NM/MT+ higher, out of the 919 cards evaluated by SGC to date. A spectacular high-grade example of one of the most classic of all nineteenth-century baseball cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $7,110
