1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb Red Background SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,110

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Outstanding high-grade example of what is universally recognized as one of Cobb's most striking cards. The red-background pose has long been considered one of the great classics of the T206 set, and of all vintage cards. This card has very strong eye-appeal. It has a particularly striking portrait, and brilliant colors with a near-flawless red background. Extremely crisp and clean, both front and back, with four strong, square corners displaying just the slightest hint of wear (predominately the upper left corner). Outstanding centering, very slightly to the left (approximately 40/60 L/R). Sweet Caporal advertising on the reverse. An exceptionally attractive and stunning ultra high-grade example of one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era. This T206 Cobb red-background portrait would make a significant addition or upgrade to virtually any world-class T206, vintage Hall of Famer, or Ty Cobb card collection. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $5,250. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $7,110
